Buildings of the former Portland Rendering Co., 273 Presumpscot St, where the Portland stockyard was located. Owned by Consolidated Rendering Co. (later Corenco), founded by the Swift Meat Co. Corenco was partly owned by the Canadian Pacific Railway. Under Corenco, this was a transfer station for funneling wastes from restaurants, meat processors and supermarkets to Corenco's rendering plant in Lowell, Mass. Closed March, 1980 when Corenco's Maine operations were consolidated to Augusta. The buildings now house a number of small businesses. |
